Jane Kilpatrick is an historian and a gardener.
Her books, Gifts from the Gardens of China (Frances Lincoln, 2007) and Fathers of Botany (Kew Publishing, 2014) tell the story of the introduction to Western gardens of the Chinese flora, beginning in 1698 and ending with the outbreak of war in Europe in 1914.
Together with the historian Jennifer Harmer, Jane has also written articles for the RHS journal The Plantsman:
The Giant Snowdrop Company (December 2013)
Amy Doncaster (1894-1995) (March 2015)
Stephen Taffler (1921-2005) (March 2016)
Bill Baker (1916-2001) (December 2017)
“I’m particularly interested in the people behind the plants we grow - from the plant hunters who first explored the flora of China to the horticulturalists and gardeners who through selection, propagation and hybridisation have vastly expanded the range of garden plants available to us today.”
